International Women's Day, March 8th

"One Woman Can Change Anything But Many Women Can Change Everything”    

The Greene Art Gallery hosted an evening in honor of International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

This event featured a short film, narrated by Meryl Streep, about Women for Women International. Kathryn H. Greene shared her experience of sponsoring a Rwandan woman through this organization.

Women for Women International provides women surviviors of war with direct aid, rights awareness, leadership education, vocational skills and business training to help them become active participants in rebuilding their communities.  Since 1993, Women for Women International has directly assisted more than 93,000 women and has distributed nearly $32 million in direct aid and microcredit loans. It currently operates in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan.
