The Greene Art Gallery was founded in 1977 by Richard B. Greene. In 1976 the town of Guilford, CT asked Richard if they could use his 1890's Victorian Barn for a bicentennial show, "Guilford Artists, Past and Present." The show was a great success and Richard saw that there was an interest for a fine arts gallery, right here on the town green. The gallery has represented hundreds of professional artists since 1977 and has held over two hundred openings for artists' work.

In 2005, the gallery closed because of Richard's health concerns and Richard passed away on September 28, 2006. Richard's wife, Kathryn Halloran Greene (pictured above with Richard,) reopened the gallery in October 2007, to much appreciation by gallery patrons, the public and artists.
